Slash commands

Every command works with your prefix and as a slash command. Type / in Discord and pick it from the list.

Where to find a command

Discord allows a bot only 100 slash commands, so most commands are grouped by category. The command list on this website shows each command's slash version next to it.

You typeSlash command
,ban/ban
,warn/moderation-3 warn
,welcome add/messages welcome add
,filter invites exempt list/security filter invites-exempt-list
  • You don't need to remember the category: type / and the command's name (/warn), and Discord finds it inside its category.
  • Big categories are split into parts (/moderation, /moderation-2…), in alphabetical order.
  • A command group's own view, like ,welcome on its own, is show in its group (/messages welcome show), or overview when the group already has a show.
  • Slash commands only work in servers, not in DMs.

Filling in the options

Members, roles and channels have Discord's own pickers. Everything else is typed exactly as you would after the prefix command, so durations, flags and lists work the same:

/moderation-3 warn member: @someone reason: spamming links in #general

Commands that work on an image or video (,rotate, ,emoji add, ,makegif…) have a file option to upload one.

Some commands work on a message you reply to. Their slash versions ask for the text instead, and they're also in the menu when you right-click a message (or long-press it on mobile) and choose Apps:

Explain,explain
Detect AI,detect

Same rules as the prefix command

A slash command runs the prefix command itself. It needs the same permissions (fake permissions count too), and, disablecommand, ,disablemodule, ,ignore and ,restrictcommand apply to both.

Discord shows every slash command to everyone, even ones you can't use. If you don't have permission, Gim tells you when you run it, just like with the prefix.

Common problems

  • A command isn't in the list. Discord can take a moment to show new commands after an update. Restart Discord (or press Ctrl+R) to refresh the list.
  • "The application did not respond". Gim was restarting. Try again in a few seconds.
  • The bot owner's commands aren't slash commands; they only work with the prefix.
